Alongside one-to-one tutoring, Cheltenham Tutors offers group tuition sessions in selected subject areas, designed to combine academic rigour with relational, thoughtful teaching.
Group tuition allows children to benefit not only from expert instruction, but also from discussion, shared problem-solving, and healthy academic challenge alongside peers. For many children, this format builds confidence, independence, and resilience in ways that 1-to-1 tuition cannot.
These sessions are designed for pupils who benefit from learning with others, while still receiving careful, structured teaching and individual attention within a small group. Teaching takes place in groups that are deliberately kept small (3-4), allowing time for discussion, explanation, and relationship-building.
Group tuition is typically organised over the course of a school year. This allows pupils to settle into a steady rhythm of learning, develop confidence, and make progress without unnecessary pressure to rush or “cover” material too quickly.
The emphasis throughout is on:
thoughtful teaching and clear explanations
continuity and familiarity within the group
building understanding over time, not cramming for short-term outcomes
creating a calm, supportive learning environment
As with all Cheltenham Tutors provision, the focus is on helping pupils move forward at the right pace, in the right way, with teaching that is responsive, humane, and grounded in experience.
This tuition would be particularly suitable for
Group tuition works particularly well for children who are willing to engage, contribute, and practise skills between sessions.
It may be less suitable for children who require intensive 1-to-1 support, highly individualised SEND provision, or who find group environments overwhelming.
If you are unsure whether group tuition would suit your child, I am always happy to discuss this before you commit to a place.
At present, I offer:
Year 4 – 11+ Preparation
Year 5 – 11+ Preparation
These groups are carefully structured to support children preparing for grammar school entrance assessments, including work in:
Maths reasoning and problem solving
English (comprehension, vocabulary, creative writing foundations)
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning
Exam technique and timed practice
Sessions are taught in small groups (typically 3–4 pupils) to ensure that each child is known, supported, and appropriately stretched.
My teaching is rooted in:
A strong understanding of how children learn
An emphasis on deep conceptual understanding rather than rote practice
Clear feedback and next-step guidance
Emotional as well as academic preparation
11+ preparation can be intense. My aim is not simply to prepare children for a test, but to help them grow in confidence, resilience, and intellectual curiosity.
Other year groups and subject-specific groups may be available upon request and subject to availability, as well as the option for online group learning. If you are interested in a particular year group or focus area, please get in touch to discuss options.
Places are limited in order to maintain the quality and relational focus of the sessions.
