Assessment for the 11+ small groups: 3rd June, 5pm in Cheltenham
If you’re considering 11+ preparation for your child, one of the most helpful first steps is a clear, low-pressure assessment.
At Cheltenham Tutors, we’re running a small group assessment session to help families understand where their child is currently working, and whether our groups would be a good fit. There is no cost for them but booking is essential (via the Google form at the bottom of this post) as spaces are limited.
Assessment Details
- Date: Wednesday 3rd June
- Time: 5:00pm
- Location: Holy Apostles church hall, Cheltenham
- Suitable for: Current Year 4 pupils (preparing for the 11+ in Year 5), as well as current Y3s
What does the assessment involve?
The session is designed to be calm, structured, and informative—not intimidating.
Children will complete a short assessment covering:
- Maths
- Reading comprehension
- English / verbal reasoning skills
We’ve designed this in line with the developing FSCE 11+ assessment, while also reflecting the broader skills needed for success in the 11+.
The aim is not to “catch children out”, but to:
- Identify strengths
- Highlight areas for development
- Give a clear starting point for preparation
Why attend an assessment?
Many parents aren’t sure:
- Whether their child is currently working at the right level
- What the 11+ actually requires
- When (or if) to begin preparation
This session helps answer those questions with specific, personalised insight, rather than guesswork.
After the assessment, we’ll provide:
- Clear feedback on your child’s performance
- Guidance on next steps
- Honest advice about whether small group tuition would be beneficial
For your child to join the small groups, taking the assessment is an important first step.
Our approach to 11+ preparation
At Cheltenham Tutors, we focus on:
- Small groups (maximum of 4 pupils)
- Careful, step-by-step teaching
- Building both confidence and accuracy
- Clear communication with parents
We’re not aiming for rushed or pressured preparation. Instead, we help children develop the skills they need to approach the 11+ with confidence and understanding.
Who is this for?
This assessment is most suitable if:
- Your child is in Year 4 or Year 3
- You are considering the 11+
- You would like a clear, professional starting point
It’s also helpful if you’re still deciding whether the grammar school route is right for your child.
